Separation Anxiety is when a dog experiences distress when their favorite human(s) leave. Under this umbrella, we also have isolation distress, confinement anxiety, pain, frustration, or anything that doesn’t quite meet the clinical definition. These are what we call Separation Related Behaviors. Both are treated with the same methods but different starting points and support systems needed!

What is Separation Anxiety?

Does it feel like a challenge to leave the house?

Is excessive barking & howling creating tension in the neighborhood?

Can’t leave the house without your dog destroying your furniture or hurting themselves?

Does your dog seem to be potty trained but still eliminates in the house when you’re gone?

Is your dog pacing and restless far before you leave, when you’re gone, and even after you’re back home?

If any of these sound familiar, this program is for you and your dog!

How It Works

My Approach

I use an approach called systematic desensitization with treating Separation Distress. We break down the really scary thing (you leaving and being gone) and make it into smaller & more manageable pieces for your dog that way you leaving the house is not such a scary thing! Facing our fears head on makes it much harder to learn, so that’s why we always go at your dog’s personal pace to ensure the best learning!

Who It’s For

  • Dogs experiencing Separation Anxiety or Related Behaviors (Confinement or Isolation Distress)

  • Guardians who can commit to weekly meetings and training 3-4x per week

  • Guardians who can abstain from absences for the 12 week program

I focus on building comfort, confidence, and peace of mind for both dogs and guardians so we can get you out the door while your dog is comfortable.

Training

We do all our training virtually since you and your dog are the stars of the show! First thing, we start with an assessment to see where your dog's starting point is. After that, you will get assignments to work on 3-4x a week, daily check ins, and we will meet once a week on Zoom. For our weekly meetings we go over how your assignments went, celebrate any wins, discuss data tracking, and work on our previous or next assignment!
