Calm Starts Here
Separation Training
Kat Legros, CPDT-KA, FDM, and Separation Specialist
Separation anxiety or distress can feel overwhelming and isolating. You don’t have to handle it on your own! Calm starts with personalized support. Using desensitization and a personalized plan we’ll virtually meet weekly to help your dog be comfortable alone. No gimmicks, no complicated training, just you confidently walking out the door while your dog is relaxed. Start with a free call to see if my programs can help you and your dog.
Separation Anxiety, or Separation Distress, is when a dog experiences distress when their favorite human(s) leave. Under this umbrella, we also have isolation distress, and confinement anxiety. These are what we call Separation Related Behaviors. Both are treated with the same desensitization methods!
What is Separation Anxiety?
Here’s some common signs we may see if a dog is experiencing separation distress or related behaviors:
Excessive barking/howling
Chewing or destructive behaviors
Attempts to escape
Potty accidents when fully trained
Does your dog seem upset when you leave?
If any of these sound familiar, this program is for you and your dog!

How It Works
My Approach
I use an approach called systematic desensitization with treating Separation Distress. We break down the really scary thing (you leaving and being gone) and make it into smaller & more manageable pieces for your dog, that way you leaving the house is not such a scary thing! Facing our fears head on makes it much harder to learn, so that’s why we always go at your dog’s personal pace to ensure the best learning!
Who It’s For
My program is for dogs who are experiencing distress when their guardian is not home, rescues & puppies settling in to new homes, and dogs experiencing confinement anxiety. This is also for guardians struggling with their dog’s separation related behaviors. I focus on building comfort, confidence, and peace of mind for both dogs and guardians so we can get you out the door while your dog is comfortable.
Training
We do all our training virtually since you and your dog are the stars of the show! First thing, we start with an assessment to see where your dog's starting point is. After that, you will get assignments to work on 3-4x a week, daily check ins, and we will meet once a week on Zoom. For our weekly meetings we go over how your assignments went, celebrate any wins, and work on our previous or next assignment!
